  • Mercury flame sensors consist of mercury-filled sensing bulb, capillary and diaphragm assembly mounted on a switch mechanism
  • Pilot flame heat vaporizes mercury within sensing bulb, which actuates the snap-action switch
  • Switch may be SPST or SPDT and is usually wired in series with main valve relay in most automatic ignition systems
  • Sensors furnished with either spade terminals (3049 series) for point to point wiring or direct plug-in connections (3098 series), eliminating point-to-point wiring
